One Africa, One People: Why Borderless Movement is the Key to Our Future

Image
At Children and Young People Living for Peace (CYPLP) , we believe that the true potential of our continent lies in its people, not its borders. For too long, artificial boundaries have restricted the flow of talent, ideas, and culture. To build an #Africa that thrives, we must transition toward a borderless reality where regional integration is the foundation of our collective growth. When we allow for the free movement of persons, we aren't just simplifying travel; we are opening the doors to a massive continental marketplace where a young entrepreneur in one city can effortlessly bring their solutions to another. This movement is directly linked to the creation of sustainable jobs for our booming youth population. By embracing the African Continental Free Trade Area (#AfCFTA), we move away from 54 fragmented markets and toward one unified economic powerhouse. This scale allows for regional industries to grow, infrastructure to expand, and millions of new opportunities to emerge ...

Stopping the "Japa" Syndrome: Why Peacebuilding is the Best Investment for Youth Retention

Image
In 2026, "Japa" (emigration) is more than a trend; it is a referendum on national security. At CYPLP, our "B4 You Japa" initiative is proving that when youth feel secure and heard at home, they choose to build rather than leave. We are shifting the narrative from "fleeing the crisis" to "solving the source." While headlines focus on "brain drain" in medicine and tech, a more dangerous drain is occurring in our communities: the loss of social capital. When the most active, peace-conscious young people leave, they leave behind a vacuum that is often filled by radicalization and crime. Statistics for 2026 show that unemployment (over 30%) and insecurity remain the primary "push factors" for irregular migration. But at Children and Young People Living for Peace (CYPLP) , we have identified a third, silent factor: The Loss of Hope. We don't tell youth "don't leave." We offer them a reason to stay. Our initiat...

Arming Nigerian Youth Against AI-Deepfakes and the Digital fog of Conflicts

In an era where a picture isn't always worth a thousand true words, and a video can lie with chilling realism, Nigeria stands at a critical juncture. The very digital tools that connect us are now being weaponized, threatening to unravel the delicate fabric of peace in our communities. As Children and Young People Living for Peace (CYPLP) , we see a new battlefield emerging: the minds of our youth. We are seeing a threat. We mean AI powered deepfakes and sophisticated misinformation loading even as Nigeria approaches its electioneering year 2027. Can this threat have impact on election outcomes in terms of peace and security? We can only act now or watch out the badly consequences much later. Imagine a digitally altered video of a revered religious leader calling for violence, or an audio clip of a respected community elder spreading ethnic hatred – none of it real, yet utterly convincing. In a nation grappling with sensitive inter-communal relations, such synthetic content can tr...

The Unbearable Cost of "Cure": Why Prevention is Our Only Path to Protecting Children Online (and How You Can Help)

Image
The internet, a powerful tool for connection and learning, has a dark underbelly: online child sexual exploitation and abuse (OCSEA). The images and videos shared, the grooming and manipulation that occur, leave indelible scars on young lives. While efforts to identify and prosecute perpetrators, and to support survivors, are crucial, focusing solely on these "cures" is akin to mopping up a flooded room while the tap is still running. Prevention, uncomfortable and complex as it may seem, is not just better – it's the only truly humane and effective way forward. The devastating impact of OCSEA on a child's life is immeasurable. Trauma, psychological damage, difficulty forming healthy relationships, and a lifetime of struggle are often the consequences. Even with the best therapeutic interventions, the wounds may never fully heal. To wait for a child to be harmed before intervening is to accept a level of suffering that no society should tolerate. The emotional and fina...
